VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – July 7, 2008 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) names retired Rear Admiral Mark Balmert to Strategic Senior Consulting Manager of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Gulf Coast’s AMSEC Operations, for the company’s Maintenance, Modernization, and Technical Services (MMTS) operation.
Balmert’s hiring follows the successful Navy career where readiness and financial management were his focus. AMSEC is a full-service provider of engineering, logistics and technical support services primarily to Navy ship programs. Mark reports to Richard Holmes, AMSEC’s Senior Program Manager of the MMTS operation in San Diego, Ca.
“Mark Balmert is a key hire for us as we look for growth opportunities in a very competitive market,” said Holmes. “He will bring insight into current Navy needs and leadership experience that will continue to demonstrate the core values at AMSEC and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.”
In his new position, Balmert will have a key role in oversight of AMSEC’s MMTS operations at their more than twenty locations worldwide, as well as focus on opportunities for growth in new markets.
Prior to joining AMSEC, Balmert commanded Expeditionary Strike Group Three, responsible for oversight of West Coast Amphibious ships, and deployed as U.S. Naval Central Command’s Expeditionary Strike Group Commander. Previously he was the Director of the Operations Division in the Navy’s Budget Office in Washington DC.
Balmert’s Navy career also included command of USS CHANDLER home ported in Everett, Washington, command of Destroyer Squadron SEVEN during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and assignment as Chief of Staff for Commander, Naval Surface Force U.S. Pacific Fleet. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s degree in financial management from the Naval Postgraduate School, and attended the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University.
