The Urban League of San Diego County announces Derrick Davis as one of its first class of Forty Under 40 awardees. The Forty Under 40 awards program honors 40 men and women under the age of 40 who have been making headlines in their fields. To qualify, a nominee either had to meet selection criteria that included working in San Diego, their scope of responsibility, their community service work, or they had be a rising star student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership. "We believe it’s important to honor their achievements; the emergence of these young leaders is critical to the future of San Diego,” said Ray King, President and CEO of the Urban League of San Diego County.

In the category for Sciences and Engineering was AMSEC’s own Derrick Davis. Derrick was totally surprised by the award, but pleased and proud. He attended the ceremony with his mother, Rosemary Davis. Derrick is the manager of the San Diego Operations for the Machinery and Automated Control Division of the Maintenance, Modernization & Technical Services (MMTS) Operation.
The "Inspired Leader of Tomorrow” award reads: "You are among the very best and brightest young talent within all different segments of industry and community, varying from education and engineers, to attorneys and journalists. You have drive, dedication, and commitment and you are using your talents to make a difference in the world. The Urban League of San Diego County recognizes you as a leader in your field amongst your peers.”
The hosting organization, Urban League San Diego County Young Professionals (ULSDCYP), is a national network of young professionals ages 21-40 that provides leadership development, economic empowerment and community volunteer opportunities for young professionals. ULSDCYP members work to develop, implement, and lead the next generation's civil rights agenda within the National Urban League, the civil rights movement, and society-at-large.
