AMSEC’s Virginia Beach Facility Receives Cogswell Award for Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement

AMSEC LLC has received the 2010 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award.  After receiving a ‘Superior’ rating from the Defense Security Service (DSS) for over 10 years in a row, AMSEC’s Virginia Beach, Virginia facility was honored with the industry’s highest award.  The award recognizes industrial security excellence and is the highest honor a company can receive for excellence in the handling of classified information.

"The Cogswell Award is the ultimate security distinction for defense contractors and we are very proud to be recognized by the Defense Security Service”said Harris Leonard, vice president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and president of AMSEC Operations.  "This achievement affirms AMSEC’s commitment to the principles of industrial security excellence in support of our customers and providing leadership to other cleared facilities to set a higher standard for security.”

Corporate Security Manager, Sharon Bishop, along with Facility Security Officer (FSO), Russell Struebing, have maintained an exemplary program that focuses on effective education, timely reporting, and the protection of national defense information.  The criteria for the award focuses on the principles of industrial security excellence, which includes establishing and maintaining a security program that goes well beyond the basic National Industrial Security Program requirements and providing leadership to other cleared facilities to set high standards for security.

To receive consideration for the Cogswell award, a facility must be nominated by their assigned Industrial Security Representative.  The facility must have two consecutive superior industrial security review ratings in addition to showing a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in their overall security program management, implementation and oversight.  Receiving this award is quite an honor for AMSEC, as less than one percent of the nearly 13,000 cleared contractors are selected annually for the Cogswell award.
